Jericho Road Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP)
The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) at Jericho Road works to even the academic playing field for at-risk children. The program serves families with children 18 months to 4 years. Home Visitors meet with children and a guardian for 30 minutes, twice a week in the family's home. Each week the Home Visitor brings a new, developmentally appropriate book or toy that is used to foster cognitive and social development in the child. Over the course of a school year, the Home Visitor provides a wealth of fun learning resources for the low-income household, equipping parents as their child's first teacher and laying a foundation for long-term academic success. The program is part of the evidence based national ParentChild Home Program, and is currently serving approximately 75 families a year.
- This year, 9 trained Home Visitors served 65 families, with direct service for 74 toddlers and 69 parents and indirect service for 170 siblings, a total of 313 individuals served this year.
- One of our PCHP graduates, a Burmese mother who was served for 2 previous years in PCHP, returned as a Home Visitor to serve other Burmese families this program year.
- This program on the West Side of Buffalo is an official replication of the national Parent-Child Home Program, giving us increased access to current research, training, and funding as well as ongoing support to successfully implement the model.
- Jericho Road's PCHP uses standardized evaluations (CAT/CLAMS & Bracken) to assess the cognitive and verbal development and school readiness in all program children.
